Kaleido patch pump

Kaleido is best understood as a pump-platform option inside Europe’s modular AID ecosystem. It does not dominate attention the way Omnipod does, but it is the delivery half of Diabeloop’s automated insulin delivery systems, and that partnership is what keeps it a live component of the next commercial AID wave.

What changed in July 2026

On 10 July 2026, Diabeloop and ViCentra announced that the DBLG2 system — the DBLG2 algorithm, a Dexcom G7 sensor and a Kaleido pump — is open for prescription in Germany, with prescriptions already moving through distributor networks. The Netherlands is expected to follow over the summer. This is a real go-live, not just the CE mark that was announced back in May 2026.¹²

Two things about it matter to anyone actually wearing the system:

• The dedicated handset is gone. The DBLG2 algorithm now runs on the user’s own Android smartphone. Diabeloop states an iOS version is coming soon, so iPhone users are not yet served.²
• No mandatory meal announcements. Diabeloop describes DBLG2 as running without requiring the user to announce every meal — a meaningful reduction in daily admin, though it is not the same as a system that ignores food entirely.¹

Existing DBLG1 users are being moved across through a progressive transition rather than a hard cutover.²

Why the Dexcom G7 pathway is the real story

Be precise here, because the distinction is easy to blur: the Kaleido pump is not "G7-compatible" as a standalone device. G7 support arrives through the DBLG2 system. On its own, the current Kaleido pairs with the Dexcom G6 — and Dexcom stops manufacturing the G6 after 1 July 2026.³

That made DBLG2 more than a feature upgrade. Without a G7 route, Kaleido users would eventually have been stranded on a sensor that was no longer being made. ViCentra said in April 2026 that it expected no immediate impact on Kaleido users from the G6 discontinuation; the July DBLG2 launch is what makes that reassurance concrete.³

Where it stands

Kaleido remains a European device — Germany, the Netherlands and France — with no US clearance, and it is prescribed through Kaleido/Diabeloop channels rather than the mainstream pump distribution most people encounter. Independent, large-scale reliability data on the pump hardware itself is still thin compared with the long-running tubed and pod pumps it competes with. Judge it as a component of the Diabeloop loop, not as a pump you would pick in isolation.
